The Practice Problem

You hit 80 balls. You feel a little better. You leave.

Most of what gets called "practice" is just aimless swinging. No score. No baseline. No proof anything got better. The same slice waits for you on your next round. That's because nothing was measured, and nothing got fixed.

01 · No Score

A random bucket of balls has no value.

Without a measured target, your nervous system never learns to perform when you're live in a round. The actual course feels foreign, because you're not practicing for it.

02 · No Diagnosis

You're guessing at which leak to fix.

Strokes leak from a specific place: wedges inside 60yds, 8-foot putts, second-shot bailouts. If you don't know where you are leaking shots, every drill is simply a vibe check.

03 · No Proof

Drills with no built-in feedback.

Most drills don't transfer. They train motions that evaporate on the course. Without a way to test if you are improving, you're just doing reps and hoping for the best.

A system honest enough to hurt.
Specific enough to help.

THE SYSTEM

Diagnose. Prescribe. Train. Retest.

Two libraries designed to be a complete system. Volume One identifies your weakness using data-backed handicap benchmarks. Volume Two prescribes the drills that fix it. Work the drills for two weeks and then retest. Score improved? the drills were right. Score stagnant? You need more reps or to pick another drill. That's the fool-proof loop.

  1. i

Diagnose your scoring leaks with one of our practice games.

Play one of the 22 practice session games in Volume One. Each produces a real number — a score — measured against benchmarks for Tour, Scratch, 10, 20, and 30 handicaps. The leak shows up on the scorecard.

  2. ii

Use our drill library to prescribe drills.

Each game points to drills in Volume Two — pulled from the most trusted coaches in the industry — chosen because they fix the specific fault that the game exposed. No guessing. No browsing. Have a known issue? Jump straight to our symptom index that points to drills directly.

  3. iii

    Train for two weeks.

Each drill addresses the leak, provides built-in feedback, prescribes reps and is backed by decades of trusted golf instructors.

  4. iv

    Retest the same game.

Replay the practice game from step 1. The number moved or it didn't. If it did, keep going to improve further. If it didn't, either you didn't follow the prescription or you need to swap drills and run the loop again.

Most golf instructors sell you loose drills and you hope something sticks.

The system diagnoses the exact fault then prescribes the exact fix.

Volume One · The Diagnostic

Practice Games Library

"Practice with a purpose."

22 individual games across five skill areas. Every game produces a measured outcome, benchmarked against Tour, Scratch, 10, 20, and 30 handicap players. Each game designed using industry-leading shot data and drawn from renowned golf instructors.

Guesswork

Five skills covered.

Each skill section opens with a one-page overview then a sequence of games progressing from baseline to full-on pressure. The golf course calls for all skills to come together at once. We've provided two full-skillset games: a 60-Shot Challenge and a 9-Hole Range Simulation that combines all five skills at once.

  • A.
Every game has a measured number.
Strokes-gained framework, not vibes. Putting Proximity Test gives you a leave-distance in feet. The 9-Shot Wedge Ladder gives you a hit-rate. Bunker Escape is a percentage. Your performance vs the benchmark reveals what's leaking.
  • B.
Five handicap benchmarks on every page.
Tour, Scratch, 10, 20, 30. You don't have to guess what "good" is for your level — it's printed on the scorecard. Compare against your handicap level. If you out-perform, it's a strength; if you under-perform, it's a weakness.
  • C.
A built-in score log per game.
Ten dated rows for ten retests. Watch the trend line emerge. Or watch it flatline — that's a signal too. Either way it's invaluable data for lowering your handicap.
  • D.
Footer points at the matching drills.
Every game ends with a menu of "Drills to improve" — the cross-reference into Volume Two. The diagnostic-to-prescription handoff happens on the page itself.

The Drills Library

"Drills designed to lower scores."

106 pressure-tested drills targeting 19 skills across 5 on-course focus areas. Drawn from decades of field-tested teaching, then vetted against a six-criteria standard. Every drill identifies the fault and utilizes what's already in your bag or a cheap training tool. Each drill is explained clearly with repetitions, goals, and common mistakes — designed so you can execute each drill solo without a coach.

Symptom Lookup

Five focus areas, one standard.

Each section opens with which issue the drill is meant to fix. As you progress through the library, drills move from basic to advanced, grouped by skill-targeted. You can also use the Symptom Lookup Index at the back to jump straight to any drill to fix an already known issue.

The Six-Criteria Standard

Every drill was scrutinized to meet the following

  1. Targets a specific fault. Addresses a single issue without being vague.
  2. Built-in feedback. You know in real time if you did it right and executed it well.
  3. Transfers to the course. Every trained motion improves your game.
  4. Doesn't create new issues. Won't create or reinforce a worse fault while fixing the original.
  5. Can be run solo. No coach or partner required.
  6. No fancy gadgets. Anything you already own or can buy for $30 or less.

Impact-bag compression
IRON PLAY · D-55
A compression drill rooted in classic ball-striking instruction: a tire or modern impact bag teaches the body where it needs to be at impact. We ran the principle through our six-criteria standard so it's measurable, transferable, and safe to drill solo.
Connected triangle stroke
SHORT GAME · D-32
A staple of modern short-game teaching: shoulders carry the putter, hands stay quiet. Most amateur scrambling problems start the second the triangle breaks. Fix it and scrambling scores follow.
Nine-shot trajectory control
IRON PLAY · D-64
The shot-shaping ladder — three trajectories (low, medium, high) by three shapes (draw, straight, fade). Designed to expand your shot menu so you can visualize and execute every shot the course asks for.

Most drills don't work.
Every drill in our library earned its place.

WHY THE BUNDLE IS THE ANSWER

The two libraries were built to be a complete system.

The libraries were designed to complement each other. Test your current skill level with Volume One (The Practice Games Library) and then use Volume Two (The Drills Library) to improve the skill. Owned alone, each book has standalone value. Owned together, they form a system that helps you drop strokes in a hurry.

Sample · Vol. Two Appendix Symptom Index · 03 Iron Play

The diagnostic and the prescription, indexed both ways.

Run a practice game from Volume One and the footer points at a set of drills in Volume Two. Open a drill in Volume Two and the footer points at the game in Volume One that tests you against your handicap benchmark

It's the integration that makes this a system. Standalone, you have two good tools. Together, you have a closed loop system to diagnose and improve the skills causing you the biggest scoring leaks.

  • Footer cross-references on every game and every drill page.
  • 5-page appendix in Volume One mapping all 106 drills to their tests.
  • Symptom Lookup in Volume Two: identify your fault then find the drill directly.

Diagnose. Prescribe. Train. Retest.
That's the designed system.

Meet the author

Tony, founder of Golf Games Hub.

Player. Builder. Stubborn data nerd about practice.

I'm a lifelong golferr who got tired of hitting balls without proof anything was getting better. I was inspired by Mark Broadie's book Every Shot Counts. Mark Broadie created the strokes-gained method used on the tour to measure performance. I began researching drills and applying benchmarks, comparing the numbers to industry-sourced shot data, and pairing leaks back to the specific drills that fixed them.

Over time, that turned into a system. Volume One is the diagnostic side — the practice games and the benchmarks I wish I'd had at 20 years ago. Volume Two is the prescription side — drills I tested or borrowed from coaches I trust, then ran through a six-criteria standard before they earned a spot in the libraries.

If a practice session can't tell you whether you got better, it wasn't practice. It was just swinging. That's the foundation the whole library is built on.

Common Questions

Before you add to cart.

Do the books work standalone, or do I need both?
Both books are designed to work standalone — and they do. Vol. One is a complete diagnostic system on its own. You can play the 22 games, and identify where you're leaking strokes. Vol. Two is a complete drills library on its own. Every drill is self-contained and runnable. The bundle adds the loop — the cross-references that take the guess work out of it and keeps your practice efficient and effective.
What's a "game" vs. a "drill," exactly?
A game is a scored test of a skill — 9 putts at 12/24/36 ft, measure your average leave distance, compare to handicap benchmarks. The output score that gets compared to a benchmark. The games are diagnostic. A drill is a focused mechanic-fixer (Connected Triangle, Gate Drill, Impact Bag) with a built-in feedback signal so you know it's working. Drills are prescriptive. Games tell you what's broken. Drills fix it. The footer of every game points at the drills that fix the fault that game exposes. The footer of every drill points at the game that tests it.
I'm a 25-handicap. Will this be too advanced?
No. this is built for amateurs across the handicap range. Every game has benchmarks at 30, 20, 10, scratch, and Tour — so you compete against a number that's at your current level today. The drills are written without jargon and start at foundational versions before progressing to more difficult variants. If anything, higher handicaps see the steepest improvement curve in the first month because there are more lost strokes to find.
Where do these drills come from? Are they vetted?
Drawn from decades of widely-taught instruction — classic ball-striking, modern short-game, shot-shaping ladders, putting fundamentals — then run through our six-criteria standard. Each drill must target a specific fault, give built-in feedback, transfer to the course, not create new issues, be runnable solo, and require no specialty gadgets.
Do I need a coach to use these?
No. Solo-runnable is one of the six criteria every drill had to pass. The whole system is designed for an amateur with a bucket of balls and a set of clubs. If you do work with a coach, the books make their job easier.
Are these printable?
Yes. Both PDFs are typeset on US-letter pages with generous margins, page tabs, and printer-friendly layouts. Print the whole thing, print individual game pages to take to the range, or read on your phone or iPad. The score logs are designed to be filled in by hand.
How long until I see results?
The system is built around a two-week retest cadence: diagnose with a game, drill for two weeks, replay the game. Most players see a measurable score change inside the first cycle on at least one skill area — often putting or wedge proximity, where the drills land fastest. The point of the loop isn't speed, it's focused and purposeful training that yields results.
Is this a subscription?
No subscription. One-time payment, instant download, yours forever. We may push free updates to existing buyers when we revise drills or add new games — but you're never charged again.
